Kaufman says that at Bennington affairs between faculty and students were encouraged. Nonsense. They were tolerated. Few years before he got there, a faculty member was fired for manipulating his students into having sex with him. Another faculty member was warned he'd be fired if it happened again, namely, getting a student pregnant. Some years after Kaufman left (he doesn't say that he ever graduated), the faculty got together a sexual harrassment policy because too many students thought that they had to trade sex for good comments on their work.
