Marcia R. TurnerAbout the author

Marcia R. Turner’s beautiful daughter Esther Tehela, was born with severe brain damage.  The only advice she received was to take her home and love her.  While that was very nice, it didn’t suffice for the lack of practical advice that she needed to raise Esther and her two other children.

After starting a support group in her community, meeting hundreds of parents of special needs children, and professionals who treat them, Ms. Turner researched and compiled On Becoming a Special Parent – a Mini-Support Group in a Book to help the thousands of parents who find themselves in a similar situation.  On Becoming was also intended for the various professionals who service children with special needs, to help them better understand what the family is enduring.

Ms. Turner is the founder of the Chicago-based organization Keshet, a provider of many services for children with special needs. She has been a guest lecturer for community groups, and has been interviewed on radio and television.
